A good friend once had a minor slug infestation in her apartment (the memory makes us shiver). She'd come home to slime trails across her rug and couch, but she could never find the culprit. She heard about the "slug-beer trap" theory and strategically placed pie tins full of Bud Light throughout the apartment.
She never had any luck ... and then, one night she came home to find the slug just chillin' next to the coffee table. After a good hearty scream she released it into the yard.
Maybe she was doing something wrong? Maybe.
Because Plenty seems to think that beer is a great, non-toxic way to catch garden slugs. Check it out.

This strategy does work! My mom has been doing it for years by hiding clean cat food cans full of cheapo beer under shrubs around the garden.
It also catches teenagers: I had a few raging house parties when I was 17 and my parents left me alone for a week. I had cleaned the whole house and picked every bottle cap out of the lawn by the time they got home, but two days later my mother asked me what happened to the case of beer she left in the basement. I had no idea it had ever been there, but my friends must have found it and drank the whole thing! I think she let her suspicion slide because I was genuinely shocked when she asked me about it.

Awww, poor slugs! Let them liiiiiive! :)
I've got tons, but they generally stay out in the yard, so I don't mind. I guess it might be a different story if they were crawling on my couch!! But I have cats, so I doubt the slug would live long!

Maybe the slug didn't like that crappy beer. Try some primo lager next time!

Just don't gather the drunk slugs and flush them down the toilet... trust me on this one... they can come back!!!

I use the bowls of beer in the strawberries every year to great success.
Also good when starting the tender greens, like lettuces and broccolis.
