Patrick Blanc: Vertical Garden
Melbourne

290708patrickblancmelb01.jpgSomething has grown in the Melbourne Central shopping centre and it’s not the crowds at peak hour – it’s our very own vertical garden by Patrick Blanc. The Frenchman’s work has been mentioned before here and here at AT. But we couldn’t help throwing in a couple of extra local pics.

290708patrickblancmelb02.jpgThese garden monster invasions are simply sublime, though we can’t help but wonder what do they do about bugs? And while we’re happy to have one in Melbourne, we do have a bit of a gripe with the location – Melbourne Central shopping centre is possibly one of our least elegant buildings and the location of the vertical garden within the cavernous space around the shot tower dwarfs it’s impact. In our humble opinion, it would have looked much better in the refurbished grand old GPO (general post office). For more pics check out the article at www.midf.com.au

Oooooh... I sooo want one. Or more. Is there any info out there on what kind of plants he uses/closeups of the plants? And what about upkeep? Are these supposed to be temporary or long-term installations?
