It's been a week and a half since I started up the NatureMill composter and from the looks of it I've got some nutritious brown stuff that's almost ready for my green friends outside. The whole process has been pretty smooth. Other than the plant matter that kept jamming the motor, everything's been churning on its own at an incredibly fast pace...

Compost usually takes months to get to a point that it can be used, but because of the regular pumping of oxygen into the NatureMill and the mixing at four hour intervals, compost in this mama is done in just a few weeks! I absolutely can't wait to see how my plants like this brown meal.
In the meantime I've been adding more kitchen waste, which I try to store in containers in the fridge before adding to the composter. This way I limit the amount of times I open up the composter, which does have a strong organic odor, but nothing to complain about. You'll see above that with each organic addition I add some sawdust pellets and baking soda in order to control smell and liquid.
My naturemill has been going for almost a month now and I have yet to "finish" my first batch of compost. I'm surprised how much stuff I can dump in there without it actually filling up.
Luckily I haven't had any jams yet, but I've been uber careful to chop and break stuff up into little pieces.
I've noticed a smell, which isn't great in an apartment with a lot of open space, but it's been improving with regular additions of baking soda and dry materials. I was relieved because those first few weeks were a little stinky!
Does anyone know of a good naturemill online forum of sorts that active and updated regularly?
Last question, I want to add compostable paper (torn up in small shreds) and just want to know if anyone has tried this yet. I know you can't add "office" or newpaper.

I keep my Naturemill outside like the manufacturer advises as I got the pet waste version.
Now, I knew up front that composting dog poop and kitchen waste wasn't going to smell good, but jeezaloo! I practically need a hazmat outfit to open the lid. I'm adding the sawdust pellets and the baking soda, but I think it's just the nature of the beast I'm composting. I'm getting really good at holding my breath...

I give up on the Naturemill. It smells and I have done everything it says to do. Purchased in July and yet to dump out. After it started growing mold - I dumped everything out and decided this was a very expensive waste of my money. Would not recommend to anyone.
