We saw a lot of doomed souls on our morning walk. Now that Halloween's over it means everyone's going to ditch the pumpkin to make way for greenery and garlands...
What better way to start a compost pile or worm bin than with a Jack O'Lantern?
Don't have a yard? You can still compost.
• Vermiculture: Compost in a bin under the sink...
• ...or use this compact wormless compost appliance
• Didn't get all the seeds out of the pumpkin? Don't worry.
If you've got a corner of the yard staked out for the real deal, give your city a call; some, like Chicago, have discounted compost bins for city residents. And check out this guide to composting at home.
Mine still look totally fine to bake up!

In New York, farmer's markets often have a food scrap collection area which will obviously accept them. I dropped my two jack o lanterns (and a dead plant, and some sorry leftovers) off yesterday morning. I think they even take Christmas trees and greenery after the holidays, too.
