Two Garden Sheds from Plastic Bottles

The folks in the UK sure do love sheds. Here's a couple unique ones made from recycled plastic bottles!

From Shedworking, these two sheds are built primarily from recycled bottles collected from friends, family and recycling centers.

The first (above) is built around a timber frame. Each bottle is cut to size, using the following steps from the original site:

"The base of each bottle is removed, with scissors. Then a V-shaped slot is cut on either side, near the top of the bottle after its location being carefully measured. A little V-wing is then able to pop out of each side of the bottle so that when the next layer of bottles is stacked it does not slip too far down."

The second, or "Green House" below, is done without any timber at all and made with more than 1,000 recycled plastic bottles. The roof is self-supporting and the bottle bases were sewn together to make a stained glass window over the front door plus bead curtain for the entrance.

While I probably wouldn't ever build a shed out of bottles (the neighbors would hate me. I can only wonder what they're saying about my half-built pallet fence), the idea of sewing together bottles to make a window isn't a bad idea.

My husband and I worked on a similar project while we were living in Guatemala. It was a recycled bottle mini greenhouse to start seedlings. The bottles were collected by children at some nearby schools and then assembled by us and the previous volunteer coordinators at the farm we were on. See the link for photos and instructions.

I was just thinking, wouldn't it be cool to find a way to link all those bottles so not only is it a shed, but a rainwater collection vessel also? Maybe just the one's on the roof. That way you can water the plants inside with minimal effort.
