Dear Re-nest,

What can we do with used shoes (not sneakers)? Is there an organization or company that takes them for recycling?

Thanks,
Kim

Many times your local shelter has drives for used clothes and shoes, especially during the winter.

The Nike shoe program is only for sneakers. The question is specifically about non-sneaker shoes. This is a good question, what do you do with items such as shoes that are no longer usable? What if they are no longer wearable and you don't want to put a potted plant in them? Where does old leather go to die...

Leave them visible on a sidewalk on a sunny day with a note saying "free" and someone less fortunate will put them to good use.

Take a look at Share Your Soles:
http://shareyoursoles.org/os-who.asp

They are not in every state, but maybe there's a location by you:

Another options is Soles4Souls:
