Q: I recently switched all of my food storage from plastic to a combination of glass and stainless steel. What should I do with all of my old plastic containers? I have repurposed several for crafts, and other small items-storage. Should I donate the rest to Savers or can I recycle them?

I think you should donate them, reuse is better than recycling!

Environmentally speaking, the best thing to do is donate them so that someone else can use them.
Alternately, you could use them to store stuff in your house -- craft supplies, nuts and bolts, etc.

Shelters use these to handout food.

If you're switching away from them because they're unsafe for you to use, is it really that great to donate them to someone else who will eat off them?
If you can donate them somewhere that will use them for non-food use, that's great. But recycling might be better than giving someone else the cancer you didn't want.

i also think an animal shelter would be great. if they use them for pet food it not like the dog is really going to get and die from cancer before they were going to naturally pass anyways.

Also a daycare center might use them for their kids crafts. they don't save food at daycare centers so they can't use them for food.
