What's the Best CFL or LED Lightbulb Brand?
Good Question

led-light-bulbs.jpgQ: What's the best LED or CFL brand out there, in your readers' opinion? The one with the most natural-looking, the warmest light? There are just so many brands to choose from, and I don't want to waste money buying ones that give off a bad light.

Editor: We're planning to do a major Test Lab of all different brands in the New Year, so look for that! In the meantime, readers, what brands of LED and CFL lightbulbs have you had good luck with?

My only advice is to stay away from Lights of America brand LED's. I have had 4 separate bulbs break (burn out is not the right term) after just 2 months of use.

I love the Spring Light CFL bulbs from my coop - I buy a load of them each year when our energy supplier offers a huge rebate & the bulbs are $1.00ea. I'd totally pay more for them because they're great.

I have yet to find a CFL that isn't too blue or too yellow.

I've been hesitant with the CFL bulbs (and the couple of LED ones i've tried) because the blue color of the light gave me a headache, but I was in the store the other day and saw that GE now had a series of CFL bulbs in their Reveal line. I like their incandescent bulbs, so I decided to give them a shot. So far I really like them, and the color of the light they give.

I don't find the light to be too yellow, but I've also got them in a room that is done with warmer colors to begin with. I suppose putting them someplace with cooler colors could possibly change that opinion, but I'm happy with them.

I've not found any that don't look hideous, and have stocked up on incandescents before they're taken off the market in the UK in a couple of weeks.

WOW! What serendipity! I just sent the same question to AT!

I am in love with my Chromalux full spectrum incandescent light bulbs and need to start searching for great CFL compacts that give off the same clean white light. If they do, I'll switch, but I'm not getting my hopes up after reading the previous posts.

I ordered one 150 w Energy Miser. I'll let you know how I like it: http://www.1000bulbs.com/search.php?search_data=Full Spectrum Energy Miser&cat=%22%22&x=103&y=9

Full confession: I recently replaced most of my CFLs with evil, energy-sucking "crystal clear" incandescents. The light is beautiful, and it gets me through the dark days and nights of winter.

@ heather77: YES! I look up at the other apartments in my building and see yellow, yellow, yellow lights, then my clean white lit apartment! The full spectrum can't be beat.
