Where To Have Chairs Recaned in Atlanta?
Good Question

caned-chair-1.jpgQ: We love our dining room chairs. Not only were they hand-me-downs from a grandmother but they are comfortable. They have seen better days, though, and now they need to be re-caned. BUT... this seems to be a lost art! Does anyone have a suggestion on where we can have the chairs re-caned in or near Atlanta, GA?

The make is Ethan Allen about 30 years ago, stamped on the dining room table itself but missing from the chairs. There are 5 regular high backs and 1 captain. Wicker is 21.5 inches tall and goes from 11.5 to 12.5 width. Seats are start at 22 inches wide and goes to 15 inches, and 17 front to back. It is turquoise, yellowish/gold and white.

Editor: Atlanta readers, suggestions for Gayla?

There is a small shop in Midtown, I apologize I can't remember the name, but it is on Hemphill, just before it intersects with 14th st. near georgia Tech campus.
They do caning and veneer repair. The phone number is on the side of the building or the window, I think you might have to call it for an appointment.

Sorry not to have a direct answer, but I would ask around at Scott Antique Market (the next one is Nov 13th-15th). The dealers there may recommend someone they use. Good luck!

THANK YOU BOTH!!!! I will check into both of them and I appreciate the help. I wanted to have them refinished as a holiday present. *smiles*
