What To Do With Extra Magnets?
Good Question

3-20-2009magnets.jpgQ: I was doing some cleaning today, and noticed for the first time that on the side of my fridge (the side almost touching the wall, that, yes, I should have dusted long ago) had a ton of old magnets clinging to it. They're not very pretty, most are advertising for products or realty businesses, and I don't really need any more refrigerator magnets. What can I do with these? I'd rather not toss 'em in the trash, and I wonder if any readers would have some re-use ideas for me...?

I paste other art to them and make prettier magnets. The thin, sheet-like ones are easy to cut into smaller pieces if need be.

I suppose I could give them to friends as gifts, if I were a little less sloppy with my cutting and glueing.

agreed-- glue some post cards you may have received to them, for example. or glue a light pad of paper to one and use it for your grocery list. you can also see if your local school/daycare center could use them for crafts, (kids are always making things to stick on the fridge).

I find that the spray glue works best for a permanent, even stick-- I even will use a photo or scrap of wrapping paper, then cut it up into smaller pieces.

If you're not into making more magnets for yourself I'm sure someone else would be, you could sell/give them away to a crafter on Ebay, Etsy or Craigslist.

SPRAY GLUE! love spray glue.. (make sure to spray from a slight distance - u might want to test it out on something else to get an idea)

get old magazines (for a vintage look).. family photos.. cutouts from fashion magazines..

cover them in little gems or beads.. ribbon.. trinkets you can never find a use for..

glitter! (spray glue the whole thing n dump the glitter on top.. put the extra back into the glitter tube)

give them as gifts.. if you have kids who use lockers they could use these in them..

you could put decorate them with a persons name & then use that as the gift tag on a small gift (two purposes & two gifts in one!)

you can make your own creative version of the "dishes clean/ dishes dirty" magnet..

wow! never realized you could do so much with spray glue & magnets haha

My wife glues them to the back of photos to create custom fridge magnets. It's a great way to re-use them.

We have a metal front-door. I printed out the words "NO Solicitation", laminated it, and glued some magnets to the back. No more knocks on our door to tell us about Jesus. I made another one "baby sleeping". We throw it on the door when we're expecting someone, and the little one is napping.

If you have kids, then redecorating magnets can be an awesome craft party too.

Here's another kid craft: Glue pictures of people your child knows to the magnet and then cut out the shapes of the people.

Do you know anyone who has just moved? I never realized how useful those magnets are until I moved and didn't have any.

If you have some heavier (ie. more strongly magnetic) ones, cut them to fit in an office tray to store paper clips, thumbtacks and other metal whatnots to keep them corralled.
