Good Questions: Where Can I Recycle Electronic Equipment?

2-20-good q.jpg
I have some old electronic equipment (Stereo, speakers, TV) that I don't use anymore. Do you know of good (green) places to recycle stuff like this in the Bay Area?

Thanks!

Lisa

Lisa,

If they work, we'd put them in the "free" section on Craigslist -- we've done that with quite a few things. We haven't tried Freecycle, but we know there are readers who have.

If they don't, the first one that came to mind was GreenCitizen.

There's also the Alameda County Computer Resource Center and the Computer Recycling Center" (neither are just for computers).

This site has some more suggestions. There's also more information here.

For the AT:SF readers in Texas , here is a list of electronic waste recyclers across the state.

If you buy a new TV or appliance from Best Buy, they will take away and recycle your old appliance for free.

Apple also takes back used iPods and telephones in their stores, and will recycle your old computer and screen if you buy a new Mac.

CostCo has an electronics buy back for recylcing old stuff. It's not a lot of money, but it's better to get something than to have to pay for it to be taken (which most places will charge you for). Here is the link:

Haven't had a chance to use it myself, but it looks like a great program!
