This question is from Huifen:
I live in New York City and I want to recycle my old clothing. Where can I go? I saw a message on your webpage saying I can bring my stuff to Union Square Greenmarket every Monday. Is it still valid?
We think that this is the post you're referring to? Since we're out here on the West Coast, can anyone in New York answer Huifen's question about Greenmarket?
Also -- dropping clothes at a local thrift store that accepts donations is always a good option. Our favorite is Out of the Closet. We're curious what thrift stores everyone else prefers and why. What's your favorite local thrift store? (Please don't forget to mention where you live when you comment!)

the union square greenmarket does indeed have a textile recycling drop-off on mondays. it's about halfway through the fair, on the west side of the square at approximately 16th and broadway.
in terms of thrift shops, i'm a big fan of cure thrift shop at 111 e. 12th - not far from union square. they take and sell household items and clothing, and the proceeds go towards the diabetes research institute foundation. www.curethriftshop.com

Here in Philly I'm all about the Second Mile Center. It's a collection of four stores, each with a different specialty (clothing, furniture, etc.). Yes, there's lots of junk, but if you're willing to poke around there are some fabulous finds.
When I lived in St. Louis, MO, I loved the Scholar Shop for clothes. The proceeds go towards student scholarships. http://www.sfstl.org/
