Green Decorating: With Books

When it comes to decorating, we think supporting artists is crucial.

However, we're also partial to decorating with found objects, produce and other organic materials.

We really like this idea of decorating with books and book covers.

We have a cherished collection of vintage paperback John D. McDonald novels and we couldn't think of a better way to display them. This would entail removing the covers, but we think that's OK: We've already read them, and are more partial to the design of the covers than the actual stories.

What do you think? Could you take the covers off of some of your favorite novels?

Great post, great idea. I can see a mix of book covers from the 50s and 60s (Ian Fleming, anyone?) being a great addition to our front room. I like it!

Yes! And then I'd glue the pages onto a feature wall or a piece of furniture....

Or... you could scan in the book covers at a high resolution and print them out on acid-free, thick paper.

I like the idea of books on a ledge shelve.

I recently went to a thrift shop and bought a bunch of old books whose covers were falling off already. Still not sure how I'm going to use them, but at least I won't feel guilty about tearing up any beloved books.

I like this! I once scanned and framed print outs of the woodcarvings in a favorite vintage book for a friend's house, but this is much cooler.
