apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Green Style: Matthew McGregor Mento's Plant Wall

5-6-mento1.jpg

Cambria and I visited this wall this very morning. It's alive and you'll see the whole apartment soon in an upcoming tour. But check this out: Over 400 plants are planted here in 80 square feet and it's watered on a timer by a drip irrigation system. One more pic and video of installation below....

It's a beautiful dividing wall, and Maxwell, since you were there, did the owners talk at all about any extra humidity in the space when all the windows are closed, or a smell of wet wool (or whatever the perforated fabric is that they "planted" into)? I'm curious about how these living walls are to, well, live with. Looking forward to the house tour!

Nesser, he talked about that a bit, but it is still very new.

Cambria interviewed Matthew and got the full scoop. look for her house tour and interview in the next few days.

can't wait to learn about the actual materials involved in the wall construction. I have been researching growing panels to see whether or not they could be used for smaller applications.

Fascinating! I'd love to do something like this but my cats would probably graze on the wall.
