We received this press release in our inbox yesterday:
At long last! You can avoid the tars and nicotines that keep you addicted to real cigarettes and still enjoy the satisfaction of smoking! The InLife Cigarette is a battery operated alternative that produces no fire and is safe to use just about anywhere...without exposing the user to harmful levels of cancer causing agents and other dangerous chemicals normally associated with traditional tobacco products...The basic components consist of a battery, an atomizer, a safe, flavored cartridge containing nicotine, water and propylene glycol and a computer chip that controls it all.
Tell us your thoughts below!

This *has* to be a joke. Three thoughts:
1. Avoid the nicotine with a plastic tube that atomizes nicotine? Hm.
2. As *if* the biggest problem with smoking is that it's not, like, green?
3. Batteries? Are they reusable?

As a nonsmoker, I wish all smokers would choose to use this. At least it leaves a lot trash to be tossed into the gutter and no smoke to waft in my face.
Otherwise it is still as bad as smoking.

That's no joke! They sell them at the mall at a kiosk.

Is it used for um... other things?

On one hand, I agree with slipperymarshmallow: it would keep smoke from being blown in my face. On the other hand, I am seriously going to crack up. If they actually catch on, I'll crack up even harder.

It's fine if smokers want to poison themselves, it's not fine that they end up poisoning everyone around them and causing so much waste and litter. I think this is a great alternative and should completely replace cigarettes, but I doubt that would ever happen. Most smokers would probably think that it looks silly, without realizing how ridiculous smoking already is.

A friend used a similar product to help him stop smoking (after several other approaches failed). So maybe in the short term it's not perfectly healthy or green, but in the long term, it's got huge health, financial, and probably environmental benefits.

A friend of mine uses an e-cigarette. They are so convenient for him to use, but he calculated he was initially using the equivalent nicotine of 4 packs of cigarettes (a day).
