Engineered wood floors are good because only the top layer uses solid wood while the base layers are typically comprised of scrap woods. Because the overall product is thinner than solid wood at 3/8” instead of 3/4”, engineered wood is well suited for radiant floor heating. The thinner material allows more heat to pass, while the cross-ply construction provides enough dimensional stability for the temperature fluctuations.
