There is nothing the least bit scientific about how we check for leaks in our own home. For example: It often feels cold near our windows -- we assume there is a leak. See what we mean?
But what about other places that aren't so obvious? Around electrical outlets? Or recessed lights in the ceiling?
If you wanted to do a full home inspection, a tool like Black and Decker's new Thermal Leak Detector could be invaluable. It's essentially a heat seeking, temperature change detecting raygun. Point and shoot at suspicious spots and it will tell you if there's a leak and how bad it is. Once you know where the leaks are, you can easily seal and insulate those areas, saving yourself big bucks on those heating and cooling bills.

Great product. This sort of thing is a simple version of what the pros use to audit houses. It's the sort of thing that councils should be purchasing and providing to people for borrowing (maybe via libraries), since you'd probably only ever use it once or a few times.
