Unfortunately, our tiny studio doesn't have a fireplace. But if it did, you can bet we'd be getting toasty with a cup of coffee and one of these: fire logs made from java!

Saving it from going directly to landfills, this company collects waste from instant coffee manufacturers. Each log comes in at just $2 a pop. They burn up to 3 hours, which is about the same time as a real log similar in shape and size. Plus, they come in 100 recycled packaging.
I use these and like them. They burn fast and bright, make a nice cosmetic fire but don't give off as much heat for as long as wood. (Which is probably not an issue with most people; it's more efficient to heat electrical anyway.)
My one gripe is that they don't look very good in the wood basket. ;P

Where do you get these for $2? Around here, I get a box of 6 for about $25.

I love this idea. So deliciously toasty :)

These are a nice idea, but as another commenter stated, they don't throw any heat at all. But they certainly aren't creepy-chemically like Duraflame, and they may be a good firestarter for fireplace-impaired people like myself.

I agree with what whytephoenix said. Not much heat but they burn bright. My mom gave me a box a few years ago for an apt. with a fireplace.
They were good to start with, warm up the chimney then add some read wood to the fire. It's a decent product.
