Hot or Not? Boxed Water

03-18-2009boxedwater1.jpgThe Boxed Water is Better concept was developed by designer, Benjamin Edgar:

“Part sustainable water company, part art project, part philanthropic project, and completely curious. Boxed Water Is Better, is a boxed water company... Started with the simple idea of creating a new bottled water brand that is kinder to the environment and gives back a bit - we found that it shouldn't be bottled at all, but instead, boxed. So we looked to the past for inspiration in the century old beverage container and decided to keep things simple, sustainable, and beautiful”

The main concept behind the Boxed Water product is that, because it’s made primarily of paper (from responsibly managed forests), that it is better for the environment than plastic. The boxes are flat packed shipped to their filler and then reshipped to the distributor. Once the water has been consumed the boxes could be reused and/or recycled. Once enough sales have been made, the company plans to donate 20% of its profits to world water relief and reforestation foundations.

they're still shipping water around (wasting fuel) when there's a perfectly acceptable source in your kitchen that doesn't create trash. recycling still takes a lot of energy (and water).

like plastic bags at the grocery store, I think bottled water is unnecessary.

I WISH I felt comfortable drinking my tap water. When I lived in NY that's what we did...

Here in my S. FL condo, the tap water does not sit right with me.... something weird about it. I think it's the pipes.
I won't even use the tap water for my pets....

I use the water machine at the grocery store to refill gallon jugs over and over several times, then recycle them....

VeryDelishVeg, have you ever considered getting a filter system? I am lucky to have one in my apartment, built into the sink.
