Somehow, Sylvania (the light bulb company) has managed to squeeze LED's into place mats and table runners! While I'm all for widespread LED usage, has this gone too far? Place your vote after the jump.

From the Sylvania online store, the LED table runner "illuminates and decorates any family gathering space, from the kitchen to the dining room to the den. It's fun, colorful, festive, and with long lasting battery power, they're always the life of the party."
And they even have LED place mats.

Mehhhh... I don't know, it might be fun for occasional lighting. But I agree, it's pushing the edge of functional. Unpowered placemats would be more eco.

The all-LED runner I kind of like, and it all goes downhill from there (those placemats). Thinking about it, the runner not even that great as I can't imagine you could put hot things on it - not exactly ideal for eating "family style." And besides, runners can be made out of all sorts of re-purposed things...Meh x 2, whytephoenix, you always seem to be right on.

I love the look of the runner, but I have to agree with mysoultokeep that I don't think it's terribly practical. Thanks for the link to the Sylvania site, though--I love the color-changing "decor ball" and rocket nightlight and I'm going to get some of those coasters for my sister for her birthday. Way cool!

I like the runner, but I would only use it for very special occasions.
