If you've access to your electric meter, there are websites which will teach you how to read it. And without yet another single-use plastic gadget.

The electric companies should buy a batch and loan them out to consumers for evaluation of their pre- and post- energy use. There needs to be more sharing of things that are not used often, i.e. lawn mower sharing among neighbors. People need to STOP buying stuff. Stuff is bad! Use what you have and see if your friends/family/co-workers/acquaintances/neighbors have what you need if it's only a once-in-a-while thing.
