I came across these Smart Stones at an unnamed big box retailer last week. It turns out they're made from recycled shopping bags, weigh less than conventional stone and look pretty much like the real thing. What's not to like?

According to the box, approximately 80 shopping bags go into EACH Smart Stone. I couldn't find the stones anywhere online except at QVC. According to QVC's Web site, their Smart Stone is made of recycled plastic AND wood yet weighs less than 5 lbs. While they're made by the same manufacturer, I believe the ones I saw in person were different since they touted being made from only paper bags.
Regardless, the benefits of the smart stone are as follows:
Not Hot. Broken Concrete is better.

I like the concept, but it still doesn't look enough like real stone for me.

Ditto thefink. They look like, well, hunks of plastic trash. Just another reason to reduce plastic bag use.
