This low-flow toilet from China doubles as an aquarium! (Don't worry, the fish don't get flushed down the drain). Great for small spaces where having a pet might otherwise take up too much room.

The aquarium toilet has three separate tanks - one for water flowing in, one for water flowing out, and a third for fish and underwater plants, keeping them isolated from any plumbing function. Another green point is that the LED device that lights the fish tank can also be used instead of bathroom lighting, cutting electricity bills.
The firm behind the toilets say they are ideal for Chinese families seeking company for their only children, but without the room for a stand-alone fish tank or bigger pet.
there are a bunch of concerns with novelty tanks like this - too small, erratic temperature changes, keeping fish in simulated daylight all night instead of letting them have a normal cycle... it's a cute idea, i guess, but i wouldn't subject anything but a rubber duckie to that kind of situation.

why not? you could objectify the fish, expose them to all kinds of bacteria in a room you don't spend much time in (all the better to ignore their needs), increase the ethos of "animals are here to serve your decor, not their lives" thinking--gosh, just think of the possibilities for hurting animals everywhere. no, this is not a good idea under any circumstances. never do this. never buy this.

p.s. with great respect and admiration for youreacigarette's more restrained and gracious tone. his points are well taken, too--i second them.
