We love lighting candles, especially in the winter. But concerned about indoor air quality, we prefer the pricier ones made from beeswax or soy instead of their cheaper petroleum-based counterparts.
So we were delighted when we a friend tipped us off to this little trick to make them last longer...
We began sticking a candle in the freezer before lighting it!
By freezing the candle, the wax becomes colder and hardens, taking longer to melt. Which means that you get to enjoy the yummy scent for a few more days--without burning a hole in your pocket!

Nice tip! I'll have to try it.
Also, keep the wicks trimmed to a reasonable length. It keeps the flame lower, extending candle life.

yes--great tip. and if you're looking to save some money on high-end soy candles, i've gotta tout my mom's candle company here: Fair Field Farm Candles. possibly the most affordable handmade soy candles ever, and they fill an entire home with scent. people can smell these candles burning from outside our door. there are additional scents and you can email her from the website: http://www.fairfieldfarmcandles.com/
we also use a candle warmer to slowly heat up the candles, which keeps them full of scent even longer.
