How To: Make a Shipping Pallet Compost Bin

07-24-09palletcompost.jpg

Growing up, our family’s composting system consisted of a compost heap enclosed with a fence. Nothing fancy, but it did the job. It wasn’t until recently that we started seeing manufactured compost bins, many of which are, in our opinion, not all that great looking and can be pricey. That’s we’re excited about this DIY combining our love of reused pallets and composting

Materials
• 4 similarly sized shipping pallets (look for them at shipping and receiving warehouses)
• 4 L-brackets
• 2 strap hinges
• 1 latch
• Screws to attach the hardware

As soon as I get some land, this is the first thing I am building.

Great idea! I've tried this out and works fine. Made in fifteen minutes and with zero costs. Here people throw away shipping pallets and you just have to pick them.
