How To: Make A Shopping Bag From A T Shirt
Martha Stewart

A few weeks ago we posted on ways to repurpose old clothes. Here's an idea we left out: how to make a shopping bag from a t-shirt. If you're like us, this can certainly kill two birds with one stone — put all those t-shirts we're constantly getting to good use and have an easy, green and unique gift to give to friends and family. And the fact that we're nudging them subtly to go green? Even better!

  1. Turn the t-shirt inside out
  2. Sew the bottom of the t shirt together
  3. Cut around the neckline and enlarge it (Martha suggests using a mixing bowl to create a sufficiently large, but still neat, opening)
  4. Cut off the sleeves.
  5. Turn the t-shirt rightsides out again and voila! A unique tote bag that has the added benefit of being washable , stretchy and folds up into a small package.
