Now I'm no bird keeper. In fact the last memory I had of handling birds was as a young child thinking that my pet love birds needed to get out of their cage so that they could take a walk. An open window quickly ended that fiasco, and needless to say there was no bird walking from that day on. Maybe if they had a stylish eco friendly birdhouse to come back to I would have never lost them? One with a glowing beacon of a perch that was completely self sufficient?

There are several things that don't work for me here. First this isn't a feeder, it's a birdhouse. And birdhouses really shouldn't have the roost at the entryway. They don't need it and it simply provides a resting place for predators (larger birds) that are too large to fit into the hole. Also, I wonder if the solar panel costs of production are truly "green."
If it's a green birdhouse you're after, I have purchased several from here for myself and as gifts: http://www.p2prescue.org/shop/tsunami-birdhouses/
While having a rougher "rustic" design, the birdhouses are made entirely of wood and other items (window latches, iron gate caps, etc.) gathered from the wreckage just following the asian tsunami of 2004. As a benefit, they were made for charity, with proceeds going toward the rebuilding process in Sri Lanka.
Can't get more green than that!

don't birds usually like to nest in dark places where they're hidden?
