Earlier this week, we needed a place to celebrate a special occasion. We'd heard of Austin's Eastside Cafe before, and knew that they used local ingredients and even had their own garden--but we'd never been there.
Boy, were we pleasantly surprised... Read on for more photos.
We took lots of inspiration from their extensive garden, which was lush with a summer crop. There were tomatoes, herbs, bee- and bird- friendly houses; there were creative gardening trellises and a very smart use of space; there were even hens happily rooting around a fenced-in section of the garden. 
One of our favorite parts, though, were the garden beds--wrought iron frames offering support to climbing bean and cucumber tendrils. They looked so cozy in the bed, and we thought this was a great use for a frame you might not trust a good night's sleep to. 
The also had beans growing in a section of dirt along the sidewalk that was maybe six inches wide. The plants vined up the side of a half-wall on twine. What a great use of limited space!
It was beautiful to say the least. And of course, I had to order the garden special of the day: manicotti stuffed with collards from the garden and covered in a garden-inspired pomodoro sauce.
