Organic Cotton Terry Robe from Gaiam

We don't talk about green fashion here -- because it doesn't usually even tangentially relate to the home.

But because we're talking about bathrooms this month and because bath robes are about as unfashionable as it gets we're feeling OK about this departure.

We were never bath robe people. They seemed unnecessary -- something in between pajamas and bath towels that we just didn't understand. Then we received super fluffy, wonderful bath robes as a Christmas gift two years ago.

Now, they're a part of our morning ritual that we can't believe we ever lived without. They're almost as critical as coffee; they're more important than slippers (socks will do, if pressed).

We like these organic cotton bath robes from Gaiam ($96). They look thick and warm and perfect for the morning coffee and paper. We won't be in the market for a new bath robe until ours have holes -- but we have considered buying one or two extra robes for when we have guests.

We think it's a really nice touch. What do you think -- wasteful or thoughtful?

I have extra robes and slippers in my guest room and my house guests love them. I got the Pottery Barn version; about the same price as the Gaiam. I have been very unimpressed with the organic cotton towels I've gotten from Gaiam so I won't be buying any robes from them.

If your home were as drafty as mine you'd never doubt the necessity of the robe! I er... also don't wear PJs so it's necessary when I get out of bed to throw something on before I really get dressed. (Heh, I have only one robe as opposed to multiple sets of PJs). I do the same when I get out of the shower, after toweling off, and apply lotion/toner while in my robe. Can't imagine doing without a soft, cozy bathrobe. When I travel, I miss it. My husband even brings his.
