Roundup: Resuable Bags

2009-06-20-bagroundup.jpg

We got on the reusable bag bandwagon a while ago and it's been great to see them enter the zeitgeist and proliferate our neighborhood en masse. (And, we've finally stopped getting strange looks and having to explain ourselves at the cash register.) But we're no longer a single gal cooking for herself; nor are we eating two meals a day at the office, so we're finding that we don't have enough bags for the weekly "big shop." So we hunted through the Ohdeedoh and AT archives to find a list of candidates (as well as a few new ones we're considering).

This list certainly isn't exhaustive, but there are a lot of good options here.

Top row:

Middle row:

  • Neela Bags ($7, polypropylene)
  • Sackaroo ($35 for a canvas pouch and 4 polyester bags)
  • T-Bags ($10, irregular or recycled tees)

Bottom row:

I love my mini maxi shopping bags from reisenthel. (I got them at the container store). they've been lugging my weekly groceries for over a year and they're still in great shape. plus they have an eye candy website:

I happened upon Chico Bags getting ready for my trip to Boston a year ago. They came in so handy, I came home and bought a ton to send to friends & family. They're inexpensive, durable, and so convenient.

They fold in on themselves, into a tiny pocket inside, and have a clip to attach to anything.

Much love for Chico Bags.

I recently got a little shopping cart to take with me to the grocery store. I used to just use bags when only shopping for myself (and living slightly slocer to a grocery store), but now that I'm shopping for two it makes a huge difference! I don't have to worry too much about the weight of what I buy (whcih makes buying milk and juice especially more pleasant), and I can make fewer trips to the store. larger, awkward shaped things go directly into the cart and other things go into my canvas bags first. it's especially handy because it has a fold-down shelf halfway down so the things on the bottom don't get crushed. I even got a "how cute!" from the checkout lady today.

I love my Enviro-sax, but for some reason, it does not stay neatly folded up and snapped anymore! It always seems to be bursting lose in my tote!

My mom got me a cute little one that comes with a carrying case, and I wish had one of those for the Enviro-sax.

All my future totes will definitely come in their own pouch/case!

I love my Envirosax bags! I got em off eBay for cheap. I like that they DON'T come in a pouch because that creates another step to getting them open and putting them away.

I have had similar problems with some of these bags and have since found a site bangalla.com that is selling some really cool tuckerbags that tuck into an attached pouch. It also sells some great green products but in regards to the bags these are fantastic and very easy to use.
