This green renovation, which we just ran across over at Jetson Green, might be our all-time favorite. It's definitely at the top of the list.

Well, first of all, it's expected to receive a LEED Platinum certification (which is pretty rare). But that's not what we really love about it.
We love that if you hold the after up against the before, you can tell this is the same house. The size and shape is exactly the same -- there have been no monstrous additions. But what a difference the small changes have made! Take the lawn for instance -- it's gone. Doesn't the whole home just look crisper?

I am slowly phasing out the front lawn, replacing it with edible plants and moss. It is way more pleasing to look out at beautiful stones, gravel, moss or vegetable gardens rather than poorly drained mud and half-dead grass.

it looks like some evergreens nearby were removed, though

I like seeing stories like this one.
We bought a 1973 fixer-upper ourselves, and are slowly restoring and upgrading it room by room.
I'd prefer to see more people go this route, rather than buying the mcmansions and zebra-homes that are being thrown up over clearcut forests by thoughtless developers.

glad the lawn is gone - it's lovely inside... though wouldn't it be greener to replace the lawn with trees and other O2 creating flora native to the area?... easy to establish, native plants need no irrigation.

It's encouraging to see more and more green renovations around New England. We are seeing more of them too. Just wrote a bit about the increased interested in Geothermal HVAC systems in Mass. and NH due to the new tax credits.
