Video: India -- Design Like You Give a Damn

"Design like you give a damn."

That's the motto of Architecture for Humanity, a non-profit founded by Cameron Sinclair and Kate Stohr, that organizes designers to provide architectural solutions for communities in need.

One such community is Tamil Nadu, India, an area devastated by 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

We just stumbled on this amazing video at PBS.org -- India: Design Like You Give a Damn. It is about 11 minutes long and it follows the work that Architecture for Humanity is doing in Tamil Nadu.

The video shows how sustainable design can go beyond Priuses and solar panels. Professionals that work with Architecture for Humanity design spaces that are both environmentally friendly and rehabilitative for communities in need of help, recognizing that being green is a necessity, not a trend, in poorer areas of the world.

Watch them build a community center for the people of Tamil Nadu -- the video is inspirational.

Green is the new black. i saw this post just minutes after reading this article about Vogue India:

So the article is not really related minus the location. I just wish the people at Vogue would take a cue from these architects and do something more worthwhile with their abilities and resources (and this is coming from a die hard fashionista here!)
