Organic Cotton Towels
Danny Seo has announced his new "Green Living Partner", JC Penney. A collaborative line of eco-friendly products will be available through the retailer starting this April, 2008. He shared images from a "look book" of products in a recent post on his blog.

At the risk of being a party pooper, I am having a really hard time with believing this to be a real green venture. Danny's ideas are great and all, but I don't trust JC Penny to do this right and make it affordable. If everything is still made overseas, the "greenness" of it will be negated by the fossil fuel it took to get here. And, if people senselessly, buy stuff because it is green, so it "makes them feel good" and not because they really needed it, then I feel that is no better than buying any other thing "just because." And, that "so fresh and so green" bag is just plain atrocious, I'd like to know how it will be fresh and green 10 years from now...
On the brighter side, maybe this venture will result in an increased demand for organic cotton, which will hopefully mean a reduction in the amount of pesticides made and used. However, if it is made in China, which happens to be where a lot of our "organic cotton" goods seem to be coming from, I'd like to see stronger controls and testing to make sure that what we are being sold is really organic! Maybe we can get Danny to work on that too...

I agree with Waterreflecting - a lot of it just seems like lip service.
