Fully Dimmable CFLs

9-26-2007dimmable.jpg

This is huge.

We know that a lot of people have held off on replacing their incandescents with CFLs because they have dimmable switches in their homes. Well, no more excuses!

Now we can all buy fully dimmable CFLs (right here at 1000bulbs.com).

According to EcoGeek, "These have all the advantages of regular CFLs. They use up to 80% less electricity, last ten times longer and can save up to $100 per bulb on your electric bills."

Check out the whole story at Inhabitat.

We don't have any dimmable switches -- so please let us know how these work for you, once you get to try them out!

Has anyone actually ordered from them? Site reviews on http://www.resellerratings.com are dismal at best.

What do you do for 3-way lighting? I have not seen anything. It seems most of my lamps are set up for that.

Any help would be appreciated.

robilu, I've seen 3-way CFLs but they can be hard to find. The first place I saw them, was a small local hardware shop, so I would suggest just stubbornly looking for them.

One thing I just learned that I didn't realize... putting regular CFLs in a dimmable light is a fire hazard. Whoops. Switched that back already!

At $15 ea, it's not feasible for us switch that (5-bulb) fixture in our apartment to the dimmable CFLs. Instead I am working to reduce the need to use it for general lighting; the bulbs I had intended to use for it are being used instead to change most of the rest of the lamps. (3 more bulbs, and the entire house will be switched other than that one fixture).

If we owned the place, or were going to stay for several years, it would be different... but for a year or two, I'm just not going to worry about it.

I have ordered from 1000bulbs.com and had nothing but good experiences. They are the place to go for odd bulbs that you can't find anywhere else.
