We found the perfect place to explore on a rainy day. Rejuvenation, with stores in both Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, and a quite nice online store, has a selection that mixes old and new. High-quality architectural salvage mixes with hand-crafted new lamps and architectural hardware, including some Rejuvenation's crew of local craftspeople still make by hand. And did we mention there's a cafe with good coffee and delicious pastries?
Along with the beautiful products, we found several green ideas for home.
• Rejuvenation's not the only store to use durable Marmoleum on transaction surfaces (Trader Joe's does, too) but we liked the fine wood edging and the color contrast between grey Marmoleum and rich, dark wood.
• That tile floor underfoot in the café? It's actually a very clever use of stencils and paint, complete with "worn through" areas. This floor is a good example of how things often look better when they're not perfect.
• Have an old light fixture that you don't want to throw away, but can't find the bulb at the supermarket? Don't throw it away. Rejuvenation is a great source for all kinds of unusual light bulbs.
• Rejuvenation is known for their semicustom design program: choose a fixture, a finish, and a shade, and even a fitting. Green: At the time of this writing, they're taking 30% off porch fixtures designed for GU24 compact fluorescent bulbs.

Hurray! I finally found Victorian-looking knobs to replace the inappropriate Bakelite ones on my oak sideboard. (Not in stock in the store, unfortunately, but found on the website.) One more thing to check off on my "to do" list for the Cure.
