Solar-Powered Holiday Outdoor Decor
Solar Santa

12_07_09_solarsanta.jpgSure, we might outwardly roll our eyes at the neighbors up the street who create a huge holiday fantasy land in their front yard, but secretly, we're big fans of holiday cheer displayed outside. We wouldn't go so far as to call that wasted energy, on account of the joy it brings, but we do applaud the idea of an energy alternative. Enter Solar Santa.

That's right, there are solar-powered outdoor alternatives for holiday decorating. They're waterproof, of course, and the solar panel comes on a swivel so that sunlight can always be detected. There are even solar-powered penguins and bears!

Prices are generally higher than conventional plug-in lights, but they do recoup some of that cost because they won't use any electricity.

Will you be switching to solar-powered holiday decor anytime soon?

I prolly will, because i have the joy of being an apartment dweller with no outside outlets. Yes, i live in Phoenix, but the desert gets cold at night, so leaving a window or the patio door open a bit to run a cord out there is so not enjoyable in the winter.
