Look! A Green Fence

This is a fence that a family in our neighborhood is putting up around their front yard.

We saw it when we were riding home from lunch yesterday.

Now, we don't know where the twigs and branches that make up the majority of this fence came from; but, let's just say they came from someone's (or many someones') yard waste pile. Because, even if they didn't, we think this project could be replicated with tree trimmings.

We were struck by the simplicity, the creativity, and the beauty.

Here's a close-up.

Next time we swing by, hopefully we'll catch the owners outside and find out where they got all of the materials and how they came up with such a fantastic idea.

how are the twigs held in place? twine? or are the branches just woven in and out? this is great!

I'd guess that it's the same basic method as similar fences I've seen at living history sites before -- the branches are woven in and out of the supports. I think you're supposed to do it while the wood is green, so they're a little flexible during construction but gradually harden into place as the wood dries. Though if you do it that way, I'm not sure you could use scrap (unless you built the fence the day after the neighborhood pruning).
