Look! Accordion File Side Table

1-12-2009filetable3.jpgWe've had some fun turning magazines into tables -- here and here -- but we thought the trend might have come to an end. How many recycled paper products can be turned into furniture anyway?

Then LLBills sent us this Accordion File Side Table! Get more pictures and instructions after the jump.

1-12-2009filetable.jpgFrom LLBill's email:
I took 5 letter sized files and taped them together in a circle (I used packing tape a little sloppily, but some sort of matte tape from an office or art supply store would make a nice clean look at the seams). Now I have a spot for visitors to set down a cup of coffee, and the pockets on the side can provide extra storage for magazines, dvd, etc!

We really like the idea. It's inexpensive, easy to put together, recyclable, and looks sturdy enough for the job. We're just wondering if it could be jazzed up a bit ... beautified?

What would you do to spiff up this table?

(Thank LLBills!)

That is quite inventive. I like it. But it must be a dusting nightmare.

Forgot to add -- a round glass top might add a nice touch!

I love it...I was thinking glass top as well. The ones that typically go on those little 3 legged side tables would be the perfect size.

How resourceful! I'd put one in my house, but with a top made of Perspex/ acrylic plexiglass, not glass!

This is brilliant! This designer deserves a genius grant! I am going to make matching ones as end tables.

I like this one a whole lot. I agree with the flat surface idea...except that I'd not want to cover the hole. It's begging to have some something stuck in it. For instance, with a waterproof surface, this could double as an umbrella stand. Plexiglas would be light, waterproof, and hole-cuttable, indeed. But you'd want to recycle it from somewhere.

A bit too shabby and not enough sheek. Some blinking lights would probably help.

Bloody brilliant! Who would have ever thought to do such a thing with those archaic accordion files?!

Love it! My inventive sister strikes again. How 'bout some ric-rac trim on the top and bottom? Would be an easy way to dress it up and add in some color.

Clever design indeed! How about reusing an old pole lamp up the middle? Just a little added something to help someone enjoy that space, reading when natural light just isn't enough!
