Look! Current Event Light Fixtures in Hotel Boheme

11-11-2008halllamps.jpgWe'd been dreaming about a night at Hotel Boheme in San Francisco ever since we read about it at AT:SF over a year ago. And, this weekend, we finally made it happen.

If you ever get a chance to sleep over at this tiny North Beach gem (we highly recommend it!) make sure to look up as you walk down the hallway to your room.

The light fixtures in the hallway at Hotel Boheme are covered in newspaper clippings from San Francisco's Beat era. Light shining through the aged newspaper casts a dim, romantic, orange-ish yellow glow.

As we admired the fixtures, we couldn't help but think what a great project this would be. You wouldn't need to buy anything new, either. Find an old lampshade at a thrift store and get to work. We think a lampshade like this, covered in political clippings from the last two years would be a fantastic gift for about 20 of our friends. If only we'd saved enough newspapers.

What kind of adhesive would you use for the clippings?

when i did a project similar to this in high school, i think i just used watered-down white school glue, and the shades are still around here somewhere.
