Look! Lace Tablecloths as Curtains

curtainopener082108.jpgLace runners have always been a little too granny for our taste, but when they went from table cloth to curtain, they suddenly looked crafty cool.

In honor of Green Escapes this week, we thought we’d post about our recent trip to Portland, Maine, where we saw these at Space Gallery…

curtainwide082008.jpgThree “curtains” hung in Space’s modern glass facade for the show “Detached Sentiments.” Most of the show featured Patrick Corrigan’s paintings, but he, along with Jennifer Gardiner, installed found objects in the front windows. Nothing was fabricated, and the overall effect, with the contrast of old and new, was really striking.

a few years ago, i realized i needed a curtain in my new apartment. i decided to try my vintage crocheted lace tablecloth and, lo and behold, it fit the window beautifully. i had a cafe rod and some non-shower-curtain-looking shower curtain hooks on hand, so a few minutes later, i had a cool new curtain.

it looks really nice and throws lovely shadows around the room when the sun is shining ...
