Sometimes we think that the average spice jar is really too small for our needs. You can't even fit a teaspoon into some of those narrow jars, and it also seems like we're always refilling ours. Well, take a look at this recycled solution for spice storage.

All those jars started life as Bonne Maman jam jars, and we like how they've found new life as spice containers! The 13-ounce jars are big enough for plenty of spices, which is nice for those of us who use tablespoons at a time in curries and other spicy dishes. It's also great to see recycling in use, of course.
And you can't go wrong with Bonne Maman jam; we really like their Four Fruits Preserves.
(Two more things in this little vignette: Can you spot the P.G. Tips tea (our favorite) and the Jamie Oliver Flavour Shaker?)

That picture reeks of unusability. How are you supposed to get at the bottom?

I do this in my pantry. I love Bonne Maman...I have three in my fridge right now. The blueberry jam is the greatest thing ever.

I do love a cute glass jar and have a hard time not collecting far too many. Those that I use for spices are not all the same as I try to buy amounts that I can use while fresh but they all have to be pretty or interesting. I keep them on a turntable in the awkward cupboard.

I use those Bonnn Maman jars to store salt - I have one for sea salt, one for kosher, one for Fleur de sal, one for table salt. They are too big for spices, though! I just keep refilling my original spice islands jars and have found measuring spoons narrow enough to fit.

I store my salt in a wide short ball jar. It's easy to use hands to get a pinch of it. I wouldn't store my spices in jelly jars since they are too big. I wouldn't use the spices quickly enough and I don't have room to store all those jars.

I love my bonne maman jar collection too! I use mine to store and transport fresh juice from my juicer. It's a handy way to divide the juice into individual portions that can be enjoyed straight from the jar/glass. I also use them in the pantry for cocoa powder, baking powder, dried milk, etc.
