Look!: The Holiday Scents of Pomanders

How do the holidays smell in your house? Emily of Emilystyle recently reminded us of the good smells that pomanders bring into the house this time of year.

The clove-studded fruit (most often oranges) have been around since the Middle Ages, and were popular during the Victorian era. We love them for their timelessness and the fact that they are a totally green way to freshen your air. Not to mention that making them is a fun and easy crafty project to fill an evening with.

I usually cover mine most of the way in cloves, which helps them dry well, and they can then be stored in with boxes of seasonal items, clothes, etc to help make them smell good.

I just made two of these. I prefer to use lemons, and I don't bother with the spice powder. I just tie a ribbon around the lemon and fill the rest of the space with cloves. It may not last as long as the other but it smells nice.
