Look! The Trunk of Poison

10_10_2008-trunk.jpgEven the greenest of us has a few things lying around the house that really don't belong inside: bleach, the odd can of WD-40, spot remover, and so forth. For peace of mind, one of our friends gathered up all this stuff and put it outside in this handsome trunk...

10_10_2008-trunk2.jpgIt's not a bad idea, either, if you have kids. If everything dangerous goes in the trunk, all you have to do is pop a lock on it and you can rest assured that junior is not going to make a delicious beverage out of that 8-year old bottle of drain cleaner you forgot under the guest bathroom sink.

An important note for those in more extreme climates: most household stuff can tolerate freezing temperatures, but double check the label to make sure. And keep the box out of direct sunlight, especially if you keep aerosol cans inside, to prevent excess heat from building up.

You also want to be sure that there is no way the bottles can leak and mix, causing potentially lethal vapors. . . segregation of things like bleach and ammonia is just as important as locking things out of reach.
