Look! Ugly Deck Turns Into Beautiful Bench

11_19_2007-wall.jpg

This is good, green design. Brett and Jay pulled up an ugly deck made with quality redwood in the backyard of their Rummer, Portland's take on the iconic Eichler. The retaining wall and bench reused not only wood from the deck, but also reused chunks of recycled concrete from an unwanted patio as aggregate in the newly poured concrete wall. (It's behind the wood you see here.)

Not only is the wall beautifully designed, it's just the right height for perching, margarita in hand.
