PrairieFence

Quite some time ago, we got a question about green fencing material.

We didn't have a lot to offer, but did come across some bamboo fencing. As we all know, there are some questions about how green bamboo really is.

Yesterday we came across another green fencing possibility.

PrairieFence by Heartland BioComposites is made up of mostly reclaimed HDPE and wheat straw (very renewable). In the pictures, it looks like wood.

It will also last much longer than a traditional wood fence, which is vulnerable to cracking and rot. It contains no toxic materials and is more fire resistant than wood.

We'd really have to see it in person, but we think we like it ... what do you think?

It looks like the same concept as composite decking. I'm not a huge fan of the way either of them look, but it would be worth it for the green factor.

Funny, we had plans to put in a bamboo fence this year, then scrapped it and put the money in savings instead. I'm glad we didn't actually do it now, maybe there will be more options available when we are ready to actually do it.
