The design aspect of these are interesting, but every time I see posted an idea or comment suggesting indoor firewood storage, it makes me wonder if the poster or designer has ever actually had firewood stockpiled. In short, bugs. You can't get rid of bugs from real firewood. Of course, those cool java logs from old coffee are another story, but outdoor covered storage is the best way to go with real wood.

After reading Faithbck's comment, I had to smile. My husband dragged a ton of firewood into our home last year (after it was frozen outside over the winter), and one day, we came home to an insane scene of ant carnage unfolding all over the floors in our living room and dining room. Even our 4 cats were dumbfounded to witness about one zillion ants fighting to the death everywhere and anywhere they could manage. There were more decapitations going on than during the Middle Ages. We could only guess that several different ant armies had burrowed into the wood and then hatched since conditions were toasty warm inside the house. We really should have photographed the scene -- absolutely bonkers!

I kind of like the furniture pix above but think that any DIYer could achieve the same look at nominal cost. Actually, if anyone here is handy at transforming trash into treasure, there's a cool contest running over at www.greenwala.com -- they're awarding a new eco-friendly laptop and printer for the most creative repurpose. http://www.greenwala.com/greenwala_contests

Aside from the bugs mentioned above, real firewood sheds. It sheds, bark, sap, slivers and shards. Good Luck.

It is also not uniform in size. There are rounds, big and small, squares both large and small, knots sticking out and the odd piece of a branch. It would take an entire load of firewood to find enough pieces to make any of those items look or function properly.

I agree with all the aforesaid about bugs, bark etc. The other thing is as soon as you burn some wood your 'display' is destroyed, but its mainly about the bugs.
