Add Los Angeles to the list of California cities that are experimenting with food scrap recycling programs.
According to a report we just caught on CNN.com, the city is starting a test program with 5,000 homes -- and if it expands next year, the city estimates that food scrap recycling could keep 600 tons of garbage out of landfills.
What we found most amusing about this video is the tone. The reporter for CNN seems to think that dragging three bins to the curb is overwhelming enough, but adding one more? That's totally over the top! (But, of course, residents won't actually be taking their food scrap bin to the curb, they'll just empty it into their yard waste bin.)
We don't think the residents of Los Angeles will have that much trouble adding food scraps to their green bins. But what do we know?

Personally I feel good about lugging my recycling over to the condo bins. I WISH I could compost where I am...

DC's recycling program is already pretty anemic, so I'd like to see that improved. However, I would LOVE to have a city-wide compost program. I know a lot of apartment dwellers who value composting but don't have the space to do it themselves.
