Green Washing in Washington?
Blogging The New York Times

18green_65011909.jpgLast night, in anticipation of the inauguration, Washington insiders choose between two very different green galas: Al Gore's and the ICCF's, which included giants like the World Wildlife Federation and the Nature Conservancy...

Guess which one had roses flown in from Ecuador...

Al Gore strived to be as green as possible, with organic food prepared across the street from its location at the National Portrait Gallery. Other green details included that the guest carpet was made of recycled fibers, waste will be recycled and composted, and Maroon 5 (whose bus runs on biodiesel fuel) played.

The ICCF (International Conservation Caucus Foundation), whose president is quoted in the article as saying, "We are focused on a much bigger impact," had beef flown in from Texas and roses flown in from Ecuador.

Al Gore turned down funds from Wal-Mart; Exxon Mobil helped sponsor the ICCF party.

"much bigger impact" must mean do as I say, not as I do.
