Tadashi Kawamata: Tree Huts

treehouseopen101408.jpg New York's filled with social climbers, though they're not usually like Japanese artist Tadashi Kawamata. His elevated social experiment—one that includes raw lumber, construction scraps, and found objects—is turning heads (up) in Madison Square Park.

Off the grid? Try off the ground...

We hadn't heard about the dozen huts installed as part of the park's ongoing art series, and so we didn't notice them right away. When we finally looked up, we saw the breezy huts high in the tree tops, seemingly haphazard and totally reminiscent of childhood.

You can check out Madison Square Park or their Tree Huts blog for more info. The only downside? In terms of New York real estate, we can't afford a penthouse or a tree-house! We took a number of pics, so enjoy!

I live 2 blocks from Madison square park and saw these the other day on my walk back from best buy. It took me off guard with a what the...? moment. Last year, I remember they had steel "trees" set up.
