Target Selling Refurbished Electronics

11-30-2007ipod.jpgWe didn't really need another reason to love Target. But the fact that they're now selling refurbished electronics has moved them even further up on our list of favorite places to shop.

Refurbished iPods, video game consoles, TV and video -- we're thinking this is a pretty cool way to shop for a few people on our holiday gift list.

If you're hesitant about buying something pre-owned, know that the refurbished items are given the same 90 day guarantee that you'd get on any Target product.

Here are some prices:

Pre-Owned Apple 8GB 2nd Generation iPod Nano - Black ($169.99)
Pre-Owned Toshiba 62" DLP HDTV - 62HM196 ($1,449.99)

They're currently out of video game consoles -- but if you're in the market for one this holiday season, we'd recommend checking back periodically.

What a cool way to save a little money and support a pretty innovative recycling program by a major retailer.

Why do you love Target so much? They are the opposite of green. They sell a bunch of cheaply made crap that is carted in from all the way across the world and will most likely end up leeching toxic chemicals into the environment through the landfill that they are dumped in. Also, they financially support conservative politics - not exactly known for their radical pro ecology lawmaking. Also, they put local businesses out of business. Putting out a few appliances that are refurbished doesn't begin to compensate for the damage this company has done for the environment. The coolest way to shop for people is to make gifts and not shop at all!

Here's my two cents on refurbished electronics.
My parents gave me a refurbished stereo system for my 14th birthday. I just got rid of it last year, at 29. Despite my obvious not-with-it-ness, (my first ipod is months old) I'd say it was a fine investment.

I have to second SFGail's sentiments... just not a fan of big box discount stores like Target and especially Wal-Mart.

The mac store sells its refurbished and clearance products. That's where I'd buy a refurbished ipod because it comes with the same 1 year warranty given on new products. Target may also offer that warranty from the manufacturer, but you wouldn't know that from available product information. Furthermore, there is a greater selection at mac store.

SF Gail, thanks for the tip on Target's giving. They appear to give to a lot of good causes like partnering with educational initiatives in NYC; I'll follow up on the their conservative gift-giving.
